ABOUT NORKA INDUSTRIES

It was on my first transatlantic crossing in 1978 that I came to realize how difficult it is to sail such long distances without any form of self-steering. On my return I built my yacht and, with my wife and three young daughters, left on the adventure of a lifetime. We sailed from Zululand in the Indian Ocean, across the Atlantic and Caribbean, through the Panama Canal, across the Pacific Ocean and finally arrived in San Diego, California. We had an autopilot and a wind vane, both of which we found indispensable, saving us many tiring hours at the helm. However, as the vane was made of Aluminum we often had trouble with corroding and ceasing up and I spent many hours trying to correct the problems. As an entrepreneur and with my sailing, engineering and manufacturing experience I developed the NORVANE.
